Oklahoma Conservatory of Music provides private lessons for all ages and levels in violin, viola, cello, double bass, piano; as well as chamber ensembles, solfege classes, youth orchestra, masterclasses and enrichment events. The multi-dimensional approach to music education, paired with instruction from artist faculty, provides a recipe for success in students musical growth.

Private instruction with highly qualified teachers lies at the heart of students music education. It is the fundamental component to student progress. In a one-on-one setting, the teachers guide their students from early beginning studies as young children through advanced levels as high school students. Students receive performance opportunities in student recitals; community outreach concerts; local achievement auditions including North Central Honors Orchestra auditions, Oklahoma All State Orchestra auditions, Oklahoma Music Teachers Association achievement auditions; Royal Conservatory of Music examinations; local and out-of-state competitions; masterclasses with guest artists and teachers; festivals, camps and other events.
30 minute lessons are recommended for young beginning students, between ages 4 and 9.
45 minute lessons are recommended for students ages 10 to 12.
60 minute lessons are recommended for students ages 13 and up.
Lessons take place once a week. Serious students interested in performing in competitions, auditioning for major summer festivals and camps, and pursuing a music degree at a university level are recommended to take twice weekly lessons.
Students can begin private lessons at OCM any time of the year.

Supercharge your students’ musical development through the OCM chamber music program. Both a nurturing and challenging program for strings and piano students of all ages, chamber musicians explore the rich and varied chamber music repertoire through weekly coachings with OCM faculty while making new friends and enjoying regular performance opportunities in student recitals and community outreach concerts.
Students can enroll for chamber music at the beginning of each semester. Musicians will be placed into appropriate groups dependent on age, ability level and scheduling preference.
Students currently not enrolled in private lessons at OCM, may enroll in the chamber music program after submitting a video of their performance showing their current ability level.
Solfege classes.
The solfege class curriculum is focused on solfege/ear training, rhythmic and melodic dictations, sight-singing, music theory and music history. Emphasis is placed on ear training, dictations and sight-singing. Three levels of solfege classes are divided by age and musical experience. All solfege classes are taught in the fixed DO system.
Solfege I - ages 4 to 6
Concepts to be mastered: singing on pitch, accurate rhythm repetition, singing of C major scale with accurate pitch in both letter names and solfege, understanding basic rhythmic note values.
Solfege II - ages 7 to 11
Concepts to be mastered: singing simple melodies in C major and a minor; understanding time signatures, key signatures, minor scales, dotted rhythms, syncopations; singing scales and arpeggios up to three sharps and three flats, aurally recognizing and singing intervals as well as four main types of chords; simple melodic and rhythmic dictations. This level can be further divided into two separate classes depending on student enrollment and experience.
Solfege III - ages 12 to 16
Concepts to be mastered: singing all major and minor scales and arpeggios; sight-singing more complex melodies; memory melodic dictations; recognizing chords in inversions; understanding and recognizing cadences and other harmonic progressions; complete mastery of singing intervals, which culminate in singing atonal melodies. This level can be further divided into two separate classes depending on student enrollment and experience. Students receive an option of taking the Royal Conservatory of Music theory exams.
Students may enroll in Solfege Classes at the beginning of each semester. Students currently not enrolled in private lessons at OCM, may enroll in OCM Solfege Classes following a placement test. Non-OCM students must be actively involved in private lessons or a school orchestra program outside of the Conservatory setting.
ocm youth orchestra
OCM Youth Orchestra fills a youth orchestra niche otherwise unavailable in other musical communities in the area, an orchestra experience for students of very young ages. The orchestra is tailored for students ages 6 through 11, with at least six months of private lessons prior to joining the orchestra. Students learn correct orchestral etiquette, while mastering the ability to play within a group. Students also receive opportunities to perform as soloists with the orchestra. Repertoire is tailored specifically to student age and ability.
Students can enroll in OCM Youth Orchestra at the beginning of each semester. Students currently not enrolled in private lessons at OCM, may enroll in the OCM Youth Orchestra program after submitting a video of their performance showing their current ability level.

Whether you are learning an instrument for the first time, returning after a long hiatus, or just wanting to brush up your musical skills, Oklahoma Conservatory of Music is the right place for you. With passionate, professional and dedicated faculty attuned to working with the unique needs of the adult student, OCM provides an environment of musical enjoyment. Adult students receive lessons from highly qualified instructors, have the opportunity to participate in Adult Student Recitals.
Adult string ensemble.
Adult students enrolled in private lessons can participate in the OCM Adult String Ensemble. It is an ensemble for adults who want music-making to be a part of their lives. The group plays string quartet literature as string orchestra, with parts doubled. Literature includes Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and others. The ensemble is for adults who have the skills to contribute to a string orchestra at an intermediate level.
